summary: during a month break from racing, ayrton thought that inviting y/n into his family sides will get them along even more. to the surprise to both of them, they got along even better than expected
warnings: sexual content, fingering, female orgasm
pairing: fem!mclarendriver x ayrton senna
After the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, there came a monthly break, even though it was only the second race of the season.
The end of march was very warm, but the weather in Brazil had its own rules. Just as in London there was probably a downpour and the temperature barely above ten degrees, the other side of the globe had almost holiday-like weather.
The 1990 season was the second year when Y/N took Alain Prost's seat at McLaren, thus becoming Ayrton Senna's teammate. While many did not look favorably upon Ron Dennis's decision for various reasons—because Y/N was the first woman in history to have the opportunity to race at the top level of motorsport, her debut in Formula 1, her young age, and the fact of what kind of past Senna had with his previous teammates—with each passing month the doubts started to going away.
The girl handled herself on the track incredibly well, and since McLaren did not disappoint with their cars, she practically returned from every race with points, effectively shutting the mouths of all those who spoke unfavorably about her.
Even Ayrton himself, who was initially the most unconvinced about the boss's decision, also didn't need much to change his mind about her. At first, he approached her with distance, fearing that her joining the team might cause even more damage than when they had Prost in reserve. As it turned out, the girl was not his enemy; often, he himself silenced all those who attacked her and questioned her abilities.
Senna saw that she looked up at him as her authority. She never explicitly told him, but it was evident how she listened carefully to his advice, asked when she had doubts, and consulted almost everything only with him, although she had a whole crowd of people around her.
Ron breathed a sigh of relief seeing that they tolerated each other and there were no forecasts for them to repeat the Senna-Prost scenario. However, tolerating each other was an understatement, because Ayrton would never invite someone to his family's sides whom he merely tolerated. The Brazilian didn't admit it out loud, but he liked the girl. Sometimes he even caught himself thinking about her when she wasn't around, and when she was, he smiled a lot more in her company, whereas McLaren's garage used to be a place of nerves and tense atmosphere for him.
Yes, if someone asked him about Y/N, Ayrton would say she was his friend. Someone he never had after leaving Brazil.
"How do I say in Portugese that I can't eat anymore?"
The girl asked, lying on her towel stretched out on the hull of the motorboat belonging to the Senna family.
Y/N shielded the sun with her hand and glanced at Ayrton, who laughed at her question, sitting next to her and smoking a cigarette.
"It's not funny, your mom wants to fatten me up so that I'm heavier and slower than you on the track."
"Não aguento mais, tô chei", but even if you say it in Portugese, my mom won't listen to you anyway."
"I've never eaten such delicious food, but when we get back, I probably won't fit into my clothes anymore."
He released smoke from his lungs and involuntarily glanced at her when she turned onto her stomach and closed her eyes. Her hair, still wet from bathing in the lake, stuck to her shoulders, and her skin, once pale, slowly began to take on a blush from the sun.
"You look good, so don't worry."
"I didn't say I would look bad, just that I won't fit into my pants anymore."
"As long as you can fit into the car, you'll be fine."
The girl snorted, "Well, in that case, I have quite a reserve."
Y/N gathered her hair behind her shoulder and settled more comfortably, exposing herself to the pleasantly warming rays of the sun. Ayrton glanced down her body and only when the heat from his cigarette burned his fingers a little, he snap out of it. Did he really like the girl, or was it just that he spent so much time with her that he got used to her? He didn't know the answer to that question, but he knew that sometimes he found himself staring at her for a bit too long. Despite being a few years younger than him, she had feminine charms. He also objectively thought that the girl was attractive.
She didn't have much of a different opinion about him either because in her eyes, Ayrton was indeed a handsome man. He was tall, athletic, had beautiful brown eyes and hair of the same color, which often fell in curls onto his forehead. She liked his smile and the way he wrinkled his nose, which, like most of his body, was covered in freckles. But Ayrton appealed to her only as an older teammate, someone who was completely out of her reach, and for whom she was probably just an insignificant kid. At least that's what she thought.
They spent time at the lake until late afternoon, as for dinner, besides Ayrton's parents, his sister with Bruno, his nephew, was also supposed to appear. Upon returning to the Senna family's home, the girl took only a quick shower and threw on a thin, white dress because even though the day was slowly coming to an end, the temperature was still high. They spent the evening on the terrace, and time passed in a very pleasant atmosphere. Mrs. Senna made sure that only delicious dishes appeared on the table, while Mr. da Silva entertained the company with stories and jokes. Although Y/N didn't speak anything in Portugese except for the short phrases Ayrton had taught her, there were no communication problems for a moment. At one point, little Bruno grabbed the radio and turned up the volume, pulling the girl by the hand and inviting her to dance. The girl, already somewhat tipsy from wine, agreed without hesitation and followed the six-year-old, dancing with him barefoot on the still warm concrete. Ayrton's mother and sister sang along with the song, his father clapped his hands, and Ayrton himself looked at the scene with tenderness, laughing and sipping his beer. She took the boy in her arms and spun with him, dancing, to which Bruno laughed out loud. Although Ayrton's family had only met Y/N a few days ago, he was convinced, seeing with his own eyes, how much they liked her. It meant a lot to him.
"Tio, agora tio Ayrton!"
Bruno shouted and pointed at the man when a new song started playing. Ayrton laughed and shook his head, to which his sister started pulling his arm and, to the sounds of approval from the family, he stood up and approached the girl, who put the boy down on the ground.
"Querida senhora," he extended his hand towards her, slightly bowing, "may I?"
Y/N chuckled and nodded, extending her hand, which was met with numerous shouts and whistles.
"I can't dance, I can't dance at all."
She said through laughter when he pulled her closer and placed his hand on her waist.
"Everyone can dance to Brazilian rhythms, trust me."
Ayrton replied with an assuring smile and spinned her around, catching her again after a moment. They danced, understanding each other without words, laughing only when one of them accidentally bumped into someone or stepped on someone's foot.
The girl didn't know if her cheeks were burning from the sun, the alcohol, or the fact that she felt embarrassed by being so close to him. But she felt light and happy enough not to dwell on it. She wanted this evening to last as long as possible.
However, at some point, Bruno fell asleep on the chair, and Viviane took him in her arms, announcing that she would put him to bed and she will also take a rest, wishing everyone a good night. Ayrton's mother, seeing that his dad had had enough beer, took him by the arm and, amid numerous protests, escorted him inside. The girl helped carry the dishes to the kitchen, and when she brought in the last batch of plates, Ayrton's mother hugged her tightly.
Y/N returned her embrace with a smile, wishing her a good night before returning to the terrace.
Seeing the expression on her face, Ayrton smiled too.
"They liked you, but I'm sure you noticed that yourself."
"They are very kind," the girl replied, closing the terrace doors, "you have a truly wonderful family."
Y/N approached the table and took a chair to sit on it, but Ayrton straightened up and patted his knees, indicating that she should sit on them. The girl accepted the invitation without protest and sat on them sideways, embracing him around the neck.
"I'm glad you agreed to come here with me," he said, looking into her eyes, to which she smiled.
"I'm glad you invited me."
For a moment, they looked at each other in silence, she on his lap, with her hand on his bare shoulders, he with one hand on her waist and the other caressing her exposed thigh. He raised his hand and brushed a lock of her hair behind her ear, touching her flushed cheek. The girl smiled at his gesture and closed her eyes.
"You're important to me, you know?"
"I am?"
She asked, looking at him again.
Ayrton nodded, stroking her cheek with his thumb. Y/N threaded her fingers into the hair resting at the base of his neck, stroking it lightly. At one point, without thinking or saying a word, he leaned towards her and kissed her. She kissed him back, touching his cheek with her other hand. Ayrton didn't break the kiss, he just hugged her tighter, pressing their bodies together. Y/N was returning each of his kisses and after a while their tongues started their love dance, rubbing against each other. Even though they were both a bit drunk, Ayrton wasn't sure how much he could afford. However, when she slightly opened her legs, giving him a silent invitation, he squeezed her thigh to which she sighed. He smiled against her lips, continuing to kiss her. He stroked her leg, moving higher and higher with each movement. When he felt the fabric of her underwear with his fingertips, he pulled away slightly, wanting to look at her face and see her reaction, but she pulled him closer again, connecting their lips in a kiss.
"Do not stop"
Ayrton smiled against her lips and deepened the kiss in response. He ran his fingers over her pussy and she purred softly. He began to slowly massage her through the fabric of her panties, but when they began to get in the way after some time, he pulled them off her with a quick movement.
His lips soon moved to her neck, marking it with kisses. She tilted her head, giving him better access to her. Ayrton accidentally slipped the strap of her dress, but neither of them cared. The girl noticed it only when he sucked on her nipple, which made her moan involuntarily.
"You have to be quiet, can you do that?"
He asked quietly, glancing at her ecstatic face. She just licked her lips and quickly nodded. He ran his tongue over her nipple again, his hand still massaging her pussy. When he felt how wet she was, he slowly inserted his finger into her, but carefully watched her face, continuing to caress her breasts with his mouth. He looked at her, wanting to make sure they were both on the same page. However, his actions were perceived with enthusiasm, as the girl tilted her head back, letting out a muffled moans from her pursed lips. Ayrton smiled to himself, still peppering her breasts with kisses. He inserted his finger all the way and started moving it, expertly nudging her inner, sensitive spot. Y/N had a hard time staying quiet, especially when he added a second finger and his movements inside her started getting more precise and decisive. The girl covered her mouth with one hand and grabbed his wrist with the other and pushed him harder into herself, feeling that she was only seconds away from orgasm.
"Ayrton, I- oh my god…"
Y/N wrapped her arms around his neck again and dug her nails into his bare shoulder.
"Kiss me, quick"
He said quietly, his breathing also quickening. She complied with his command and kissed him, making him muffle her moans with his mouth. Y/N came on his hand soon after, squeezing her eyes shut and tilting her head back. After a few moments, the girl sat up straight again, trying to calm her breathing. As she slowly began to realize what had actually happened, the blush on her cheeks intensified even more. She looked at him uncertainly, he laughed seeing her reaction and kissed her on the cheek.
"Don't look so innocent, you're quite a good one."
The girl felt ashamed and closed her eyes, cuddling into him, and he hugged her tightly.
"Promise me that no one in your family will sit in this chair for breakfast."
Ayrton chuckled and rubbed his hand on her back.
"I promise, don't worry about it," he rested his cheek on her head, "We can go somewhere else if you want."
The girl raised her head and looked at him.
"I won't be able to keep quiet, Ayrton. Your parents-" "Don't worry," he interrupted her, taking her panties thrown on the chair next to them and handing them to her hand, "I'll make sure you keep your mouth busy."

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Lando Norris was a simple man, he grew up with the commodities and luxuries of an upper class boy and had never in his life took a bus, but you could take away all of his privilege and he could manage to survive. He could adapt, change his ways, work his way back to the top of the chain again, whatever it took. As long as he could interact with other people on a daily basis he didn't care what happened in his life, because he was fueled by one thing and one thing only: Gossip. Nothing in this life moved Lando more than gossip, he was a sucker for it and when he was paired with Oscar Piastri in McLaren, he found someone as unable to mind his own business as himself. They could spend hours just gossiping, about their friends, other drivers, celebrities, their families, whoever lived on Earth, they always had something to chat about. And their favourite part was drama. They loved it when some scandalous situation reached their ears and they'd spend the rest of the week talking about it and trying to keep up with the updates. The rest of the people who worked with them knew they were like that and more than once they would fake drama just to watch them ramble to each other about it for days. Their capability to gossip was the main entertainment of the garage.
Of course, when Y/N, Max Verstappen's best friend, and Charles Leclerc, Max's rival, started dating, it was the biggest drama the paddock had seen in years. Max and Charles going at each other's throats every weekend was like "Keeping up with the Kardashians" for Lando and Oscar. They would try to use any chance they got to listen to the arguments and comebacks the Ferrari and Red Bull drivers would throw at the other. Lando was close with Max, while Oscar was close with Charles and Y/N, which also meant that they would usually get more information from them, making their gossip sessions even more interesting. Lando loved to hear Max complain over and over again about Charles, telling him how much of a prick the monegasque was and constantly wondering what Y/N ever saw in him. Oscar and Y/N loved ice-cream, and they would go out for it pretty often, there, she sometimes talked about how worried she was about Max and Charles fighting all the time and Oscar did what he could to help her out. On the other hand, when Oscar and Charles went to play pool on Mondays, the Australian gladly listened to his friend complain about Max and his possessiveness over his girlfriend, getting a little possessive himself. All of this made Lando and Oscar fans number one of the Max-Y/N-Charles drama developing in the paddock.
The whole season, they watched the progress of motorsports' favourite couple. From Charles flirting with Y/N at the Mercedes garage, to the last race where Y/N hugged and comforted a defeated Charles who had just lost the championship. The McLaren boys witnessed the couple's hard launch on Instagram during summer break, with a scandalous picture of them kissing on Charles' yacht, Y/N sitting on his lap and Charles shamelessly grabbing at her ass. They had a feast with the fans' reaction to the picture and they had even more fun watching Max's live, while the three of them were together grabbing a beer. The dutchman's ears going red and his eyes hyper-focused on the screen of his phone, so angry that Lando was sure some smoke could go out of his head. They also had the pleasure to watch Max call Charles "stupid" on open TV, with millions watching, followed by the FIA's response to that and Max's public, and notoriously forced, apology. They were both aware that Y/N and Charles' relationship was the thing that Max despised the most on this world. He could spend weeks rambling about why the two should break up and how terrible of a combination they were.
It was suspicious, to say the least, when the first race of the next season, Max entered the paddock along with the couple, chatting amicably and even laughing a bit. Lando and Oscar stared at the sight of the three drivers skeptically, how come they were all friends now? What crucial episode of the telenovela did they miss? Something was off. They watched as Y/N and Charles walked holding hands towards the Mercedes garage, Max chatting excitedly with his best friend not even caring about her relationship anymore. At the entrance of the german team, Charles kissed his girlfriend goodbye and Max gave her a friendly peck on the cheek, then the girl went into the garage and the two guys walked to their own garages, talking lively just the two of them all the way. The whole day, the tree of them crossed paths and exchanged some words with big grins and happy auras, all of the previous tension completely dissipated.
"I don't get it, mate. They hated each other three months ago!". Lando said to Oscar while they were chatting in Oscar's driver's room. "I just can't get it".
"Maybe they talked?". Oscar suggested.
"Nah". Lando dismissed his idea with a flip of his hand. Oscar threw a little papaya ball at him, Lando caught it and threw it back. "I met with Max plenty of times during the off season, he would had told me".
"True". The other agreed and passed the ball again. "I also met with Y/N and Charles, went to their house for dinner a lot at the beginning of the year. They would've said something".
"Maybe it's a PR thing". Lando wondered as he played with the ball before passing it back. "Like, maybe they were scolded so bad for their behavior that now they have to act like they like each other to clean up their public images".
"That actually makes sense, I mean, Max did call Charles stupid on TV". Oscar chuckled and threw the ball back at Lando. "Amazing, mate. Sometimes, you do speak some sense".
"You're so funny". Lando threw the ball harder at Oscar, hitting him on the chest as a response to the other's teasing. Oscar let a huff out at the impact and then laughed a bit, satisfied with the annoyed reaction he got from Lando.
With the resolve to find out what made the other three change their act so drastically, Lando and Oscar started trying to gather some information. They spoke with other drivers, people from Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull, friends they all had in common, even Charles' brothers and Y/N mentor, Lewis Hamilton. Little by little, they both discovered that no one knew anything about Charles and Max putting their differences aside and were as shocked as them to see them hanging out in the paddock. Lewis asked Y/N about it and she told him that nothing happened and that everything was like always, which was obviously a lie, but he didn't want to pressure her on the matter. Lando and Oscar spent four race weekends melting their brains trying to work out what happened. Lando had enough. Everything was the same? He wasn't buying that. He walked to Max and asked directly. The dutchman was as direct with his answer: "I still want to jump his throat. I'm just being civil about it".
"Is that what he said?". Oscar asked and Lando just nodded his head while he bit his apple.
"He said that and then walked away. He didn't even give me time to ask more". Oscar played with the papaya ball, that seemed to be his new favourite toy.
"That's weird".
"I agree, if there's something Max isn't, is civil". Lando added with his mouth full. They were frustrated, they had even more questions than before.
Over time, Lando kept trying to extract more information from Max, but all he got were answers like "I have a lot of self control, that's all", "Just trying hard to do the right thing", "I'm trying to make him trust me a little more", "Just want to be close to Y/N again", and things like that. But there was a conversation that put Oscar and Lando on edge. They were discussing the Qualifying session, one where Max got pole and was closely followed by Y/N, Lando on third place. Y/N was explaining that she didn't like the circuit, she felt like every lap she was learning new information and she just could never feel like she was familiar with it. That led to talking about perceptions and how other things like lights and unnecessary noises could divert your attention from what's right in front of you. "Sometimes you need someone to remove everything you don't need so you can finally see clearly". Max said and he placed his hand on her hip, squeezing it lightly. Lando noticed the motion instantly. Max's eyes went from Y/N to behind her and the brit followed his gaze, landing on Charles, who was talking with George Russell and Alex Albon. The comment, the possessive squeeze, the way he so intensely looked at Y/N and then Charles, Lando felt a chill down his spine. Not a good one.
"You're crazy, mate. You finally lost it". Oscar said as he shook his head, shutting down the possibility right there and then.
"Think about it!". Lando paced back and forth on the little room, running his fingers through his hair. "He wants to get close to her again? Someone has to remove the things she doesn't need so she can see clearly? He believes that he's doing good at self control?". Oscar replayed the phrases inside his head. They did look suspicious.
"He still wants to jump Charles' throat...". Lando stopped on his tracks at Oscar's addition.
"We need to do something". There was this weight on their shoulders now that they finally understood Max's intentions. "Max is a great lad, we can't let him turn into a...". Lando struggled with the word, so he whispered it. "A killer".
They both agreed on that, they couldn't let Max go on with his plan of eliminating Charles. They liked them both, they weren't losing their friends just because they couldn't see eye to eye about their relationship with Y/N. They took turns to follow Max around, the only free time being when they had to focus on their jobs. They knew that Max wasn't killing Charles in the paddock, with so many possible witnesses. Every night, they both followed Max to his room and stayed there, hiding in a corner of the hotel hallway for an hour, making sure he wasn't coming out. Oscar even went to the extent of suggesting Charles getting bodyguards, when the other asked why, Oscar just ran away, leaving Charles extremely confused. Every chance they got, they did what they could to keep Max away from Charles, which was kind of hard since the dutchman was constantly following the couple around and trying to chat with them. Lando ended up running out of excuses to pull Max away and they understood that they had to do something about the situation.
One particular night, they followed Max to his room as always, but after 45 minutes, they saw him go out again. He wasn't wearing his usual Red Bull attire, instead, he wore black clothes, sunglasses and a cap, the hood of the hoodie covering his head. If they didn't know better, they would have never guessed it was Max. He went straight to the stairs and they followed him quietly, already suspecting where he was going. Oscar stopped to grab two brooms from a service room and Lando frowned at him. "We may need weapons", was what the Aussie said and Lando took one while scoffing. They hid at the stairs, watching Max stop on front of Charles' room. For insurance matters, Y/N stayed at another hotel, with the Mercedes crew, so Charles was most surely alone in the room, it was the perfect opportunity to kill him. First time in the season Red Bull and Ferrari stayed at the same hotel. Max looked around and opened the door as quietly as possible, walking in and shutting the door behind him.
"We need to go in, now!". Oscar said and tried to run off to the door, Lando grabbed him and pulled him back behind him.
"We need a plan. Let me think". Was he actually ready to stop his friend from killing another of his friends? He had never physically fought anyone, could he really stop a murder?
"Fuck a plan, we have to save Charles!". Oscar ran again and this time Lando followed him. They stopped at the door. There was music playing inside and they could faintly hear Charles' voice.
"No, Max, wait. Wait!". That was it, they were barging in.
"No, Max! DON'T DO IT, DON'T KILL HIM". Oscar screamed as they ran into the room with their brooms up, ready to attack. What they didn't expect was finding Max on his knees, in front of Charles, trying to undo the button of his jeans. "Oh... OOOH!".
"Putain de merde!". (Holy shit!). Charles cursed as he pushed Max's hands away from his body and backed away. Max fell backwards. Lando covered Oscar's eyes, they dropped the brooms. For a second, the room fell silent.
"Kill him?". Max asked, confused.
"I think we misread the situation...". Lando added, then, he thought about Y/N. "I can't believe you could do something like this to Y/N". He sneered.
"Are they decent?". Oscar asked, his eyes still covered. Lando removed his hand.
"It's not what you think-". Max started, but Lando cut him off.
"Oh, sure, you were just checking if the zipper of his jeans worked fine, weren't ya?". Oscar shook his head slowly, backing Lando up on his disappointment.
"Don't give me that look, you two barged in with brooms asking me not to kill Charles". Max said. "Sucking him off is way better than killing him". Lando saw Oscar make a face, like he was actually considering Max's point, he elbowed the younger driver and made him go back to his disappointed posture.
"We promise, it's not what you think". As Charles was saying that, the bathroom door opened, Y/N walking out with a blue and red lingerie set. She opened her eyes wide when she spotted to kids that weren't supposed to be there. Lando covered Oscar's eyes, again.
"Okay, I'll give it to you. It definitely wasn't what we thought". Y/N was still there, shocked. "Please, get dressed, there's a baby in the room".
"It's me, I'm the baby". Oscar added, his hands coming up over Lando's to make sure he didn't see anything. Charles ran to Y/N and covered her with his Ferrari hoodie that was close to the bathroom. Lando lowered his hand and Oscar opened on of his eyes to peek if it was safe, he then opened the other one.
"We fixed our problem". Max explained.
"We can see that". The brit stressed.
"We're uhm... all together?". Lando and Oscar looked at Charles when he added his comment. "We've been... you know".
"Fucking?".
"Among other things". Y/N corrected Lando. The two McLaren boys just nodded, synchronized. "We're happy like this, all together. We'd appreciate it a lot if you could keep the secret for us". Lando and Oscar smiled and nodded again.
"Of course, we will". They grabbed their brooms and got ready to leave. "We'll leave you to it".
"Thanks". Max said, the two were going out when he called them again. "And guys...". They turned around to look at him. "Don't play detective again. Do us a favor and buy yourselves a board game".
"Copy that". Oscar gave them a military salute and Lando just smiled. Outside, they both ran back down the stairs as fast as they could, giggling like teenagers. On the street, they kept laughing uncontrollably, walking back the three blocks to their own hotel.
"Mate, we're not gossiping anymore". Lando said, knowing pretty well that they will keep doing it.
"Deal". The rest of the way they just kept laughing and then, at the hotel, they went to their respective rooms, calling it a night. While lying in bed, Lando just couldn't sleep, repeating the night in his mind and giggling, there were a lot of sexual jokes and remarks he needed to let out. He went to grab his phone to text Oscar, ready to gossip again, when it vibrated on his hand. Lando laughed out laud at the message:
Oscar: "Can you top when there are two other people?".
Lando: "Dunno mate, but's gonna be a hell of a challenge to guess the bottom".
Oscar: "Challenge accepted".
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Well this one is a lot of fun! I thought Lando and Oscar were perfect for this one. Thank you for reading!

REAL LIFE RELATIONS — THE FIRST
mick schumacher x reader x liam lawson
series summary— the world of motorsports is vast, yet it is also very limiting. like an intricate web of relationships, connections can get you everywhere, and underneath the pinnacle of motorsports are the secrets waiting to be unfolded.
CHAPTER ONE — BABY IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD
news catches to your parents while you spend time with them during the break, and new rumors begin at the start of the season
warnings: daddy issues, reader has nervous breakdown, even more conspiracy theories
previous ★ masterlist ★ next
“I’m surprised you found your way back home.”
Your father’s voice is cold and distant as you enter the front door, no bother sneaking around your own house. After your late night trip to a taco truck and two orders of fries, you decided to stay over at Yuki's, a place you both shared together when you wanted to get away from your own house.
Entering the living room, you catch your father at the dining table, in his pajamas, glasses adorned on his face with his hair unkempt, a cup of black coffee on one hand and scrolling through his iPad on the other.
Old you would’ve caused a ruckus by now, shouting in the early mornings causing your father to reply in the same fashion. One thing you learned late, is that you are your father’s daughter, no matter how you may act around each other, you’re both made from the same pieces of string. There’s no denying that, not at least to you.
The best way to avert the situation is to play it cool and keep calm, walking past him making your way in the kitchen. You situate yourself on the kitchen island making your own breakfast, the same butter and honey on pumpernickel toast since you came home from college. It became a comfort food, reminding you of home, rather, your father.
“I slept at Yuki’s, I planned things with him way before the dinner and I was running late, it’s rude to be late at plans.” Your father scoffs, nodding his head slowly. Your face falls flat. You’ve seen that expression before, disappointment, doubt, suspicion. Your appetite weans off as you drop the toast back on the plate, avoiding his gaze.
“I see… Care to explain this then?”
Raising your head, eyes following the screen of your father’s iPad— a news article of you, well Mick’s but you could see yourself in the blurry pictures. You sit frozen, trying to gain composure, hiding your own nervousness to your father. There hasn’t been a close call like this, not in the last five years at least.
Your eyes wander, rereading every paragraph double-checking, triple checking if your name is mentioned. The thought leaves your mouth dry as your hands begin to shake under the table, eyes flickering through the screen. Taking slow and deep breaths, you avoid your father’s eyes. Knowing for sure he’ll have another outburst- this time it was truly your fault.
Your father cares too much about you to not let this slide, he always put your privacy above everything else, to the point where you began to think if he wasn’t proud of you, or if he didn’t want to be associated with you.
It didn’t matter what you did, he always let you do whatever you want, as long as you're careful around the public. Your identity, a mystery to everyone, maybe it’s why you didn’t have a lot of friends growing up, maybe that’s also why you’re always with Mick or Yuki, you can be yourself around them.
Your perception of your own father confuses you sometimes, he would do all these contradictory things, like Pavlov’s dog you’d learn when to react to his affection, and when to keep distance. He’s always controlling what and what not to do, act, say, at some point you find yourself an extension of your father and not yourself.
It was whiplash, one second he’s singing you praises, the next he’s looking at you like the piece of shit under his shoes. Nonetheless, you’d learn to understand that it was all for your safety, as much as you loathe him, he’s your father.
There are things that can’t change.
“Of all the people… Mick? God YN, when will you stop acting out everytime things don’t go your way and grow up-”
“Stop it this instant.” You glance at your stepmother and step sibling as they walk into the kitchen. You stay frozen in your seat, hands trembling as tears slowly pool on the corners of your eyes. You look at her through your blurry eyes, desperate to leave, you didn’t want her to see you like this.
Especially your stepmother, but things don’t ever go your way, as much as you want to leave, your legs are stuck on your seat. Your heartbeat dampening the sound of whatever your father might be talking about, it only dawned then the gravity of your mistake. Not being with Mick, but the mistake of being seen.
You learned to live for so long away from the camera, you got used to not being seen. Sure you went on races but it was easier to control variables in the paddock. Seeing yourself on the front pages of a local newspaper-
“YN-” Standing on instinct, you face your stepmother, “if you want, you can leave.”
Wasting no time, you burst through the door- leaving your bag, you had nothing but it didn’t matter now. You walk around avoiding the main streets to the nearest park in the area, feeling grateful how you chose to sleep at Yuki’s last night. It was still early enough, not a lot of people your age, mostly elders and their breed dogs walking around the park.
You don’t know how long you spent adorning the lake, it could’ve been minutes or hours— not that it mattered, you’re enjoying the solitary time. From the corner of your eye, you catch a familiar figure, a blondie panting as he points in your direction. “You’re hard to find you know.”
Watching him sit down beside you, he pants catching his breath before situating his head on your lap, lying down on the grass. “I know what you’re thinking… but you need to wait until I catch my breath… I’m— I'm not letting you leave this time.”
Instinctively, you move your hands at the stray hairs sticking on Mick’s face. Wiping the sweat off his face using the sleeves of your sweater, observing his face, the sweat dripping off his forehead as he catches himself in labored breaths, eyes closed. Smiling to yourself, you relax in his presence, leaning back on the heel of your palms copying his actions.
Closing your eyes, you feel the cold air rushing through your face, the warm sunlight peeking through the branches of the tree, shining light on both you and Mick. Your breaths, slow and steady, taking in every moment, when you open them, you watch Mick’s intently gaze upon you.
“How’d you find me?”
Mick smiles before showing you his phone, a message from your stepmother saying you left. You roll your eyes hiding the laughter growing in your smile. “Of course she told you…”
“Who else if not me?” Mick shrugged, clearly not caring if your stepmother called him early in the morning, or late at night.
“If it’s you, of course I’ll come. I’m always one call away YN, for you especially.”
His statement earned a scrunch from your nose, cringing at his cheesy lines, “Even while you’re racing?”
This time it was him who grimaced at your statement, “Okay don’t play smart with me, if I could answer my phone during races, why not. But you know what I mean YN.”
You sit still in silence at his answer, playful or not, you knew Mick was sincere with his words, there are few people who you trust with all your life— Mick was one of them.
Which made it even scarier to you as you continue playing around with fire like this. Moments like these are a wake-up call to the burning fire already spreading out in your mind. Moments like these which make you think if you'd been a normal person, maybe your chances with Mick might be better.
Unlucky are you.
Pushing blondie away from your lap, you stretch your legs ready to leave. The blonde senses this and follows through your actions, timing his movements with yours, making sure he’s steps behind you leaving you space. It only frustrated you more, knowing how observant he is—
He who knows your quirks and the little things you do, your mannerisms, what you like and don’t like, he’s constantly there, showing up. Slowly picking up the mess you leave every single time you fuss or mess up, always the first one you call and talk to, always the one you look forward to seeing.
He’s always there.
And it hurts more knowing that one day, he might get up and leave— off with someone better, someone normal. Someone who isn’t you. And you’ll be left alone, still used to him, still looking forward to him, still you’ll be waiting for him.
“How does it feel to have offers left and right?” You bump your shoulders against Yuki as you walk around the Bahrain International Circuit with him. Your friend scoffs, looking back at you, “You mean to ask that to yourself?”
You press your lip into a thin line, hiding the smile growing from your lips slowly feeling bashful at his words. “My offers are yours Yuki, you know I won’t leave without you. I’ve been training to be your race strategist since forever, I think I’d rather be with you.”
“I heard from Helmut they’re interested in taking in a new race strategist for a second driver.” Your eyes widen slowly walking closer to Yuki, head glued beside him.
“A second driver for Tauri? Are they replacing you?” You shake his arm, whispering right by his ear.
Yuki scoffs, pushing your head to the side, “It’s for Red Bull, apparently they’re looking for a second driver for the next season.”
Raising your brows, you pull Yuki to the side of the track letting other members of the team walk first. Looking left and right, you check for other staff in the track doing their own session. Once the coast is clear you bring Yuki closer to you, “Where’d you get that? The season has yet to start, why are they looking for a second driver?”
Yuki shrugs his shoulders, “I have no idea, Helmut was asking about you since Newey wants to talk to you about something, I haven’t got a clue.”
You both continue walking, but your head is still stuck on the conversation earlier. How could Yuki know about that? You knew Helmut’s preference towards Yuki, he sang him with praises, which automatically puts Helmut in your good books. But is their relationship even that close to sharing information?
Apparently it is, but you can’t stop thinking about it, especially since Newey and Helmut asked for you— Yuki’s race strategist. Why would they want to talk to you? Unless…
“YUKI! Oh my gosh! Why didn’t you tell me sooner!” You pinch his arms, jumping in the middle of the track leaving the Japanese confused with your sudden outburst.
“You’re getting the Red Bull seat aren’t you?” You exclaim in full confidence, albeit a little loud for your own preference, it seems like no one noticed your scandalous statement as everyone continued walking along the track.
This time it was Yuki’s turn to burst out laughing, “Where are you getting those ideas from, like you said it’s the beginning of the season. I thought I heard crazy shit, but here you are spouting crazy nonsense.”
You deadpan, slapping Yuki’s arm— “Think about it, why would they ask to talk to me? A race strategist? Obviously this is about you. Yuki, I swear you’re getting this seat.”
Yuki nods along, not fully convinced, “Okay, let’s say they’ll be talking to you but they may just poach you away from me, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”
The more you think about it, the more you feel upset about it. “I don’t want to be separated from you. I’d rather stay in Tauri than move up.”
Yuki raises his brows, patting your shoulders, “As much as I admire what you’re planning for us, it’s not as bad as you think. We still have a whole season in front of us, let’s leave those thoughts for later and focus on what we have now.”
Gasping, you throw a hand in front of your mouth, fake crying, “When did you get so mature Yuki? I can’t believe we’re already acting like serious adults, thinking about our career perspectives.”
Earning a groan from Yuki as he shakes his head in disbelief, “Like I said, forget what I said and let’s focus on the upcoming season. Also, don’t you dare tell anyone about it, and expect a call sometime now. I haven’t told anyone as well.”
“Not even Pierre?”
Yuki shakes his head left and right, leaving you flabbergasted, “This is serious, serious isn’t it? Why would you tell me something like that? Who am I going to talk to about it?”
“No one. Not even…” Yuki raises his eyebrows hinting on the person he’s implying.
Another gasp escapes your lips, “HECK NO! Especially not blondie, if he knew, then he’s contractually allowed to tell you know who…” you trail as your thoughts eat you alive.
Yuki twists your body, making you face him as he grabs both your arms, “Which is why I beg of you, don’t tell anyone. I know we already talk way too much, but you can only talk to me about it okay? And maybe Liam…”
Your face morphs into a blank expression, eyes dilating at Yuki’s deliberation, “I happen to tell him… but that’s aside the matter. Do not tell any other driver, promise me.”
You gulp at the seriousness, usually these rumors fly around the paddock all-season round but I guess this was something that will actually come to fruition in the upcoming future since they’re keeping it hush hush. You nod your head, afraid to speak anything out into existence.
What’s not adding up is how Yuki knew, at first you thought it was Gasly who told Yuki who told you. But this— this was from Helmut directly to Yuki and then to you.
How you got involved into all this is shocking, even to you. By now Yuki is probably regretting telling you, but you admire his honesty in telling you beforehand rather than getting blindsided by Helmut and Newey calling you to the main office. Suppose you knew about both teams picking drivers from the same pool, but staff?
It’s all too coincidental that they asked for you, even as Yuki’s race engineer they could’ve just gotten someone in Red Bull to replace you, if it’s Yuki they want. Especially with your personal circumstances, a secret daughter of an F1 Team Principal, people in the smaller circles of the grid knew who your father is.
You don’t want to jeopardize what you built for yourself all these years. But like what Yuki said, it’ll be another problem in the future. Maybe then you’d have the answers to your questions. Especially when you know how he isn’t your true father.
For now it’ll be better to keep your head down on the low, and focus on Yuki— because at the end of the day, it’ll be just you two. Just then your phone pings, receiving a message from a person you haven’t heard in a long time.

A Quick Look at the FIA and F1 Rules
Hi everyone, glad people seemed to like my more technical posts. I thought it would be helpful to take a look at the FIA and some of the most important rules and regulations in F1. I won't get to every rule, there are far too many, but I will cover the most important ones.
To understand the rules one must first understand the governing body, the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile). The FIA is the organization that started F1, but is in fact in charge of all motorsports worldwide. So endurance racing is overseen by the FIA and so is MotoGP for example. This means that most rules are pretty streamlined across the different types. It also means that the FIA has somewhat of a monopoly over motorsports.
Some people think of the FIA like its a big room of people sitting around a table and making decisions, but this isn't the case at all. Rather, the FIA is made up of various national motoring associations and is spread all over the world. Most members don't even meet, and it feels less like a body sometimes and more like a union of allies. It is led by a president who is elected by FIA members, and has a variety of vice presidents who cover certain divisions (safety commission, F1 commission, etc).
The major duties of the FIA are to create rules, oversee races, discipline rule breakers, oversee technology, and ensure safety of drivers and fans. In truth, they have a very complex job to do over such a wide berth. And every single year there are new rules an regulations that the FIA creates or even is forced to create. It enforces these rules through the judicial system (namely the stewards, race directors, and International Court of Appeals) and acts essentially as any other government would work. While all members vote on certain issues, the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) is the ultimate decision maker (a lot like the US's congress) and covers all motorsports around the world, not just F1.
Alright, so that is just a quick look at those guys. Let's dive into some major rules.
Power Unit Regulations
Power Units are majorly regulated in F1. They have to be a specific type in modern F1, namely a hybrid power unit. The rule that requires hybrid power units was put in place in 2014 in order to encourage teams to innovate in engine recovery, and ultimately be more sustainable. Another rule around power units is the power unit limit. Cars are limited to a certain amount of replacement components (ICE, MGU-K, MGU-H, etc) during the season, and if they go over they incur a grid penalty. For example, in Spa this year Yuki Tsunoda took multiple power units over the limit and received a 60 place grid penalty. This rule is in place to make sure that wealthy teams who can afford to replace their parts often do not get an unfair advantage.
2. The Spending Cap
Introduced in 2019 or 2020 I believe, the spending cap is one of the newer big rules in F1. It was created (after pressure from some smaller teams) to make sure that the wealthier teams weren't spending an excessive amount. For example, before the cap a team like Ferrari would spend something like $400M or more on their car, but a team like Williams would only be able to afford around $250M. The FIA felt this gave the big teams a massive advantage (it did) and thus the cap was created to level the playing field more. The cap excludes driver salaries and other such costs.
3. Aerodynamic Restrictions
There are many regulations surrounding the aerodynamics on a car. These limit the sizes of things like the wings and diffusers, but also limits the design. For example, on the rear wing, the DRS flap must have a certain level of stiffness in order to pass regulation. One of the new regulations surrounding aerodynamics was the introduction of ground effect in 2022. This is a complex array of tunnels and pipes in the floor of the car that generates more downforce. This was created and declared legal in order to increase the rate of overtakes and ensure more close races.
4. Tire Regulations
Like aerodynamics there are a lot of rules around tires. The major one is the race day tire allocation. On the day of a race, teams are limited to choosing only three compounds of tires to have ready. On top of that, during the race they must use at least two different types of compounds. So a team can't stay on mediums the whole race. If they start out on mediums they must switch to a hard or soft eventually. Another rule, this time meant for safety, is the wet weather rule. If there is rain during the race, teams must switch to inters or full wets. If they don't they can receive a major penalty, financial or on the grid.
5. Qualifying Rules
Qualifying has its own set of rules that must be followed. The major one is of course the sessions formatting (Q1, Q2, and Q3). They also must pay attention to the clock. If they do not start their flying lap before time is over, they are out of luck. One big rule is the yellow flag rule. If a driver is on flying lap, but a yellow flag comes out, they must slow down and abort their lap. If they don't, they risk a grid penalty or deleted quali time. We saw this recently in Singapore, when Max Verstappen's first Q3 time was deleted after he ignored a yellow flag. Speaking of deleted times, track limits are also very important in quali. This rule states that during a flying lap, drivers must remain inside the white line or have their time deleted. This rule is in place to ensure they don't get an unfair advantage. We saw this also in Singapore, when Charles Leclerc's time was deleted and bumped him down to P9. The last quali rule I will discuss is the impeding rule. This rule states that if you are on an outlap or inlap and a car doing their flying comes behind you, you are required to move out of the way. If you don't that's a penalty, often a grid penalty, and is called impeding. I lied, actually the last rule I will discuss is parc ferme. When drivers park their cars in parc ferme after quali, absolutely no changes to the car are allowed. This is a big one, and teams have been fined millions for not complying.
6. Race Rules
Buckle up. There are a lot of race rules. The ones that viewers probably notice the most surround giving overtakers space. Essentially, when you are driving and about to get overtaken, you must leave room for the other to come through. That doesn't mean to not defend, but if them getting past is inevitable you cannot push them out. Contact in general is frowned upon, and if two cars hit, it will be investigated to see who is at fault. If no one was, it is ruled as a racing incident. If one driver is at fault, they will receive a time penalty. Many drivers break these rules. This also goes hand in hand with the rule that states that a driver cannot overtake if they are off the track. So in a race if two cars are battling, one goes off track and gets ahead, they must give the position back. Again, drivers break this rule all the time.
More rules that drivers must bow to during the race include rules about adhering to flags, safety car rules, and DRS rules. For the flags, no matter what drivers must follow the rules. If its yellow, slow down. If its red, race is over. If its blue, you are getting lapped and must let them by. Under the yellow flag a safety car usually comes out as well. When the safety car is out, overtakes are not available and speed is limited. Rule breakers are severely punished. For DRS the major rule states that it can only be used in DRS zones around tracks and when your car is within 1 second of the car in front of you. I have never seen a driver break this rule, but I assume the punishment is severe. There are a lot more race rules I could say, but these are the most normal ones to see enforced.
7. Pit Rules
During quali and the race, the pit lane has its own set of intense rules. the first one I will discuss is the pit speed limit. This limit forces drivers to slow down to about 50 MPH while they are driving through the pit lane (terribly slow for an F1 car) and was created for safety purposes. Those who break it during quali might receive a fine or a grid penalty if it was bad. Those who break it mid race will receive a time penalty. Another important rule is the safe release rule. This rule states that before releasing the car from the pit box or garage, they must ensure the lane is clear. If they don't and almost cause an incident (like two cars crashing) then a driver will be charged with a unsafe release and incur a penalty. The final rule I will discuss is the pit penalty rule. if a driver during the race receives a time penalty, they often serve it when they pit. What happens is the driver will pull up like normal, and then however long they have been penalized, they must sit there. The Pit Crew is not allowed to touch the car until the penalty is served. If they do, they incur another more aggressive penalty and often have to serve the first one again.
8. Super License
I'm sure you have heard of a Super License before. Essentially, all F1 drivers must hold a valid FIA Super License. It requires them to accumulate a certain amount of points in junior categories before they can drive an F1 car. This ensures that all drivers have sufficient experience to avoid accidents.
9. Car Development
There are strict regulations of the F1 cars. The dimensions must be within a certain limit, the weight must be over a certain limit, and other such rules. The biggest rule, in my opinion, is the rule around car development. Shortly, a team must design their car themselves. So they cannot copy another teams designs, or purchase major parts from last year car. The whole point of being a constructor is that you construct, so the FIA set these rules to make sure no unfair advantages were being taken. Certain parts can be bought from other teams as long as they are un-listed by the FIA however, so small teams like Haas often purchase simple parts.
10. Protests and Appeals
During the season, teams have the right to protest other teams if they believe their actions/cars are illegal and can also protest any decisions made by the racing director during a race. If it is investigated and the car was declared illegal or the decision was declared incorrect, there will be retroactive action, like removing a penalty or disqualifying a team from the protested races. if the hearing is held and a team is charged, that team can appeal the hearing and present new evidence in an attempt to reverse the decision.
Alright that is all the major rules! If there are any I forgot or ones you need clarification on, please let me know.
As always, cheers!

i know this is a me problem but i cannot get super invested in challengers because i do not care about either of those men at all...josh o'connor used to be so special to me...and now...still cannot articulate why i find men so boring and/or offputting. used to feel like i was ~protesting too much~ iykwim but now...i don't know. the ratio of fandom's investment in men vs. women is so tiring but is def not going to change and there are reasons why that's true that i understand. but i just...ugh.
tennis at its peak to me was serena/caro/angie/maria/vika/venus/etc and all the contrasting and weird dynamics that were SO different from each other. you can add aga in there too. and it was interesting because of the expectations of how they were meant to act vs. how they did. and now i really dislike them both and am disappointed/angry about a lot of their views, but the chrissie/martina rivalry was so INSANE. like that documentary haunts me and the book about them is like...wow. and the men's versions just do not hit the same for me. like roger/rafa is so boring and i think if i had been paying attention during the peak of it, i'd be more interested in it? but it's so...blah. i think maria/serena tensions are insaaane and for so many reasons and i think it's partially understandable, partially a shame that their rivalry and careers get reduced to these very simplistic tropes that i think are deeply unfair to both of them. like people think maria is one thing and she really is not? and flattening her is shit for so many reasons...god. anyway. i don't know what my point is. i know that a WTA movie wouldn't hit the same way as challengers. and i know it's also just not a movie for me. because the whole ot3 never really works. writing the fic for it was like ok. do i care about him being pathetic? and the answer is no!
rafa/novak is actually kind of interesting to me ngl i miss that account....the history was like damn ok! rn i'm def more lenient of caring about ~shit people or i guess being interested. like obviously not the most vile people like zverev is just so horrible to me i cannot. and then there's more opinion based ones like rublev drives me bonkers because the babygirlism of him is disgusting to me and i think...whatever. this isn't my point. this was supposed to be a post about how i wish i could get invested in f1 but i cannot. the pathway of like...nba fandom (a select few, imo most steph/klay which was like...not really for me but now that they're seperated and watched the wnba game sitting apart...well i am interested!) to f1 fandom to the motorsports thing which i do NOT get is so baffling to me.
hockey is like...the one sport i know the most about and have loved for the longest period of time but i just...i am not built to be romantic about sports or like...oh my god these men hugged. wow. what does it MEAN. like i don't get any of it. i've tried reading the articles and the books and i just find it so embarrassing. and boring! and obvious? unless it gets turned into something that i do not really think exists but it sounds smart. i don't know. like team dynamics etc are so interesting to me but i also think they're so segmental. and contextual that i get sooo bored of like...the reading into it. and then i feel bad because people act like you should be murdered if you read into it with women. but i get that because women's sports already has so many existing relationships that it's not as fun to play pretend because it's a lot easier to forget about male athlete's rl partners etc than like...the fact that mpp is marrying laura stacey. like dartmouth's laura stacey. can you believe that? i still cannot tbh. i don't know! i have no point. sometimes i feel like i am hanging onto fandom and i really should not because i feel like such a drag. the new tennis rpf fics has actually been so good because it isn't boring m/m pairings with no tension. SORRY! but like damn...is this growth? idk. i don't even have anything to bring to the table rn...
also back to challengers the only positive emotion i've had about it in a while was comparing that trio to ben affleck/jlo/matt damon. now that is interesting.
it is baffling to me that qinwen/iga has been the pairing that's hit the most out of every wta pairing i've randomly decided to try. aryna/paula does not interest me at all i'm so sorry. the emma/qinwen was v good and i think the edge of it is what i like. too far but not really at all. unless you're like...rpf should be illegal. which i obviously don't feel that way but i def experience a lot of internal shame about it. i miss writing but i think the unfinished twu fic that will never become anything makes me not want to start writing anything that isn't a one shot that taps out by 10k for sure.

Happy Birthday former Grand Prix racing driver David Coulthard.
Coulthard was born 1971 in Twynholm, Galloway, south west Scotland. His parents are Duncan and Joyce Coulthard, his father was partner of the haulage firm Coulthard/Hayton. He was educated in Kirkcudbright Academy where, in-between travelling for karting races, he achieved 8 O-Levels, 1 Higher and 6 Detentions, apparently!
David Coulthard’s father Duncan gave him an unorthodox introduction to motor racing. He bought his 12-year-old son a go-kart as a surprise and entered him for a race just three days later.
Those who saw Coulthard’s kart flipped upside down at the very first corner of his racing career might not have tipped him to become a grand prix race winner. But anyone who followed his subsequent karting career, which included a trio of Scottish championship titles between 1983 and 1985, might have figured he was on his way to better things.
Nickname DC he is now a commentator, presenter and journalist. After outgrowing karting he progressed to car racing in the British Formula Ford Championship and the Formula 3000 series.
He made his Formula One debut for Williams during the 1994 Spanish Grand Prix and fetched his first Formula One win at the 1995 Portuguese Grand Prix. In 1996 he joined McLaren and moving on won two races in 1997, five races throughout 1999 and 2000, and finished as runner-up in the 2001 Formula One World Drivers’ Championship. He secured his last win at the 2003 Australian Grand Prix, left McLaren after 2004 season and joined Red Bull in 2005. He made his last Formula One entry at the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix before retiring from the race later that year.
Thereafter he worked with Red Bull as a consultant and joined the BBC as a commentator and analyst for their Formula One coverage. He also participated in the Race of Champions and won the 2014 and 2018 competitions. Starting from 2016, he has worked for Channel 4 as an analyst and commentator.
He comes across as a likeable guy and has been described as warm, genuine and funny, I wouldn’t say I am an avid fan of motorsport, but I sometimes watch it and his interviews before the races and practice rounds In October 2018 Coulthard was announced as a spokesperson and advisory board member of the forthcoming W Series, a racing championship for women based on Formula 3. The helmet with a saltire that Coulthard wore in his driving days was originally in honour of fellow Scot and friend Colin McRae who died when he crashed his helicopter near his home in 2007.
Now I quite like David, but, in my opinion he did a rather silly thing in 1999, he tried to patent his racing helmet, the one in the pic, stopping people having the saltire on their own ones!
Coulthard's plans were also greeted with dismay by Scottish football fans, famed for dressing up in Saltires. Racing drivers, David Franchetti and John Cleland were both dismayed at the attempt, at the time Franchetti, who also used a saltire on his lid commented
"I don't want to fall out with David so maybe we should sit down and talk about it."
Galashiels Cleland a former touring car champion said
"I was the first to use the St Andrew's Cross and I would never try to stop another Scot from doing the same."
Coulthards manager at the time said The design on David's helmet is not the Scottish flag, it is a blue and white logo which he has used for years. It is also a darker shade of blue.

Verstappen is 'achieving 100% more often than any of the drivers' - Alonso | 2023 Dutch Grand Prix
Fernando Alonso says Max Verstappen’s achievements this year deserve respect because he is achieving his potential more regularly than his Formula 1 rivals are. Verstappen scored his 11th win of the season so far, and ninth in a row, in yesterday’s Dutch Grand Prix. Red Bull has dominated the championship so far and Alonso believes “it is underestimated sometimes what Max is achieving” as a result. “To win in such a dominant matter in any of the professional sports, it is so complicated,” said the two times champion, who finished second to Verstappen on Sunday. “Days like today, I felt that I was at my best and have been giving 100% of what I felt and my abilities on a racing car,” said Alonso after the race. “But maybe in Spa I was not at that level or in Austria or something like that. So you always feel that there is room to improve and you are not 100% happy with yourself, as I am today. “I think Max is achieving that 100% more often than us at the moment, than any of the drivers, so that’s why he’s dominating.“ Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said Verstappen’s latest victory at Zandvoort was especially impressive given the extra attention on him at his home race. “I think the most impressive thing for me this weekend is just, you have seen all the pressure that Max is under an expectation of 100,000 Dutchies here, and a lot would have cracked under that pressure today. And he kept his composure and delivered as he’s done so many times.“ Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free Horner said there were two points during the race weekend “that really stood out for me” as examples of what a high level Verstappen is performing at. “There was the first lap in Q1 where he went off at turn one and then he got blocked on the next lap, there’s a black cloud coming, there’s a lot of drivers would have buckled under the pressure and he didn’t. “Then again, having emerged from the pits behind a lot of cars and having to come through the [field] the way he did, there’s a lot of drivers that would have buckled under that pressure. And he kept his head and he was phenomenal.” Verstappen has only failed to win two of the races so far this year. Horner said he’s been performing consistently strongly since the season began. “If you look to the previous races, I think in Bahrain, in the first race, he was already in a commanding position. He then had a driveshaft failure in Saudi in qualifying. His recovery through the field was impressive there. So he’s been in incredible form for about the last three years now.“ “With his ninth consecutive win, Verstappen has equalled the all-time record held by former Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel, as well as Alberto Ascari, who did the same in the 1950s. Interview with George Russell for Stuttgarter Zeitung 23.6.2022
Interviewer: Jürgen Kemmner
Translation + original article (photo) under the cut
For three years, George Russell drove for the back-of-the-grid team Williams, this year he's sitting in a Mercedes, teammate to superstar Lewis Hamilton. This brings big changes for the 24 year old Brit - both positive and negative.
Mr. Russell, do you need to pinch yourself when you see yourself ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the Championship? No, not at all. I'm not here to fight against him, we fight for race wins. Lewis is an exceptional driver and what he has achieved is incredible. I want to be at the top, not only ahead of Lewis, that's not enough.
With what expectations did you join Mercedes?I was convinced that it would be something special and different to Williams - and that it wouldn't be easy. It was enormously inspiring to me to witness the work ethic in this team, the high level everyone works at and how everyone motivates each other. I was aware it would be a massive challenge to be the teammate of Lewis. I took this step because I'm confident in my abilities.
You scored top five finishes all through the season, except for your home race in Silverstone. It was a difficult moment to watch the race from the sidelines. I can't remember going out in the first lap anywhere in my entire career. And Silverstone was twice as painful because we had the chance at a race win.
You hurried to Zhou Guanyus car after his heavy accident to help him - Your car was taken away which stopped you from starting again. Do you feel cheated? The problem is that the Stewards follow the exact wording of the regulations - but you can't write down rules for every scenario. For decisions like this, I'd wish for more delicate decision-making for the sake of the sport. But then maybe there would have been damage to my car and I'd have had to retire, or I could have gotten a penalty,..
Fans on social media were celebrating you and comparing you to racing legend Ayrton Senna who once helped a crashed colleague as well. I was convinced I had to help, I definitely didn't think of Senna there - I didn't know of the incident bback then. The crash was the worst one I've ever seen - and was directly involved in.
Social Media is a minefield, people talk bad about others and also as a sports star you need to endure quite a lot. Do you read posts about yourself? I try to limit it. You said it, sometimes on social media you're in terrible company. Sadly there's people, not few of them, who put you down, potentially only to make themselves feel better. Maybe it's also jealousy when you write something bad about someone - it's so easy to sit at home on your keyboard to insult others on the Internet because you're not face to face. That barrier has some people writing whatever they want.
In Montreal you got booed by an older fan. I smiled hearing him. But to be honest, it's genuinely pathetic. Who gives you the right to do this? What crime did I commit to get booed? People often forget that we're all human. I realized that in 2009, when I was eleven, at a motorsports event where Jenson Button was honored for his Championship title, Lewis Hamilton was there and Ross Brawn (team principal back then; publisher's note) as well. When I went to the bathroom, Ross Brawn was there - as an eleven year old, I couldn't believe meeting him there. I only knew him from TV and suddenly I realized: He's real, he's flesh and bone, just like me. This realization has stayed with me. Many people forget that when they talk badly about athletes, celebrities or politicians because they somehow believe they're aliens. It's a strange world we live in.
With Mercedes, you're more in the limelight than you were with Williams. Are you coping well with that role? (Laughs.) It was a radical change because it happened during the pandemic. 2019 I was with Williams, then the pandemic came in 2020 and 2021 where no one was about, and no fans during the races - and 2022 I'm with Mercedes and spectators are flowing to the races. That's something new. As a child I dreamt of becoming a Formula 1 driver, not about becoming famous.
McLaren driver Lando Norris said you'd changed since you started at Mercedes. You'd become more serious... I have always been serious. I know how to separate work and private life, of course you can go and have a beer with me too sometimes. Everyone changes, nobody's the person they were ten years ago. At 17, a lot of people want to party every night, with thirty that isn't the case anymore. That's also due to the circumstances. This season, I had 27 more days compared to 2021 where I had to do sponsor or PR appointments for the team. 27 days I was missing as a racing driver. When I have time off, I go to the gym and not the golf course, no matter how nice the weather is.
Which values do you want to stay true to? To stay grounded, be humble, to know where my roots are. Since I joined F1, I'm better at telling the truth for me from the bullshit. I quickly learned who's a true friend and who just wants to use me. And I've learned what I expect from life and what I need for it. My girlfriend and the handful of true friends I have know the life I lead and they accept me.
Last question: What can you accomplish in France? I expect a lot, we made great steps forwards. I think we'll be able to fight for wins this season.
#tw crash mention#tw crash pictures#george russell#f1#note: it maybe sounds a bit dismissive of lewis at the beginning but i didn't know how to translate it better hope that makes sense#also sorry for eventual typos or weird grammar#love spending a saturday morning translating an interview that was held in english and translated to german into english again#no but it's a nice interview. also good on george for getting back at lando love to see it#thought if i had the interview anyways why not translate it#(sorry for not writing out the german version but i didn't feel motivated to do that)#translation#it's funny bc sometimes you can guess what he said in english from the german translation#i feel like one of those google translate challenge things

what kevin said in his book about himself and his childhood:
this post will be about some of the things kevin has said about his background and his personality. i think it’s very interesting and give some insight into why kevin is the way he is, both on and off track. once again, i won’t be revealing everything in the book since that’s not really cool, but i will highlight some of the things he mentioned.
for his first birthday, he was giving a kart without a motor by his uncle, who was a mechanic and had build all of jan’s karts. when kevin was two, they put a motor in it. the plan was for jan to be able to sit behind kevin and control the pedals, but kevin wanted to drive on his own. then his uncle tied a rope to the back of the kart, so he could slow kevin if he went too fast, but kevin was even faster than that and often ended up dragging his uncle behind him. they dropped the rope and from the age of 2 years old, kevin drove a kart on his own (watch baby kevin drive here: https://youtu.be/OsQ_WjdXhhE)
kevin is extremely competitive and has been from a very young age. he hates losing, even if it’s just a board game, but he has grown up enough that he can internalise it without getting angry. he reveals in the book that jan is the same, but he still gets mad every time he loses.
he was taught from the age of 4 by his uncle that “crashing” in karts was not dangerous, they did break exercises where kevin would basically crash and get bruised until he got it right. i personally think this defines kevin to this day. his driving is literally fearless. however, kevin says this same uncle was also very competitive and pushed kevin to the limit every single training session. he would sometimes hit kevin on the helmet if he didn’t think he did well enough, he was also quite verbally abusive. while kevin says that his uncle is a great guy and very sweet off the track, he does say that you should not pressure and punish kids that way. especially now he is a father, he just can’t understand how anyone can do that to children. he believes it’s better to encourage than berate.
kevin had a difficult childhood. he was very loved by both his parents, but they did not have a lot of money. there were times where him and his mum had so little money that his mother could not afford to buy cheese after kevin ate it all (apparently kevin really likes cheese lmao). when he was very little, he only corresponded with his dad in england through fax since they could not afford the cost of an international phone call. of course, jan did get reasonably well off later, but as kevin only lived with him mum, he did not really get to enjoy that in his day-to-day life. him and his mum, britt, moved around all the time (the list of his home addresses in his childhood is two pages long, many of them in well-known low class areas) and his mother had troubling relationship with a man after jan and her broke up. of course, he doesn’t specify what that means exactly, but it is quite clear from the book that some sort of abuse towards his mother was involved.
kevin did not really attend school at all. his only focus was karting. he only showed up to one exam - but he actually did pretty well, so he goes around telling everyone that he has a high average lmao. he did a lot of reckless things with his friends, one of which involved a car flipping around without kevin wearing a seatbelt. he only got out of it unscathed because his friend literally held him in place by throwing his arms around the front seat and kevin as the car rolled, which kevin says today was insane. he did a lot of reckless stuff with his friends, but never things that harmed others. he was obsessed with motorsports and he was practically depressed during the winter when there was no racing.
surprisingly, kevin admits to being pretty shy. certain parts of f1, especially the media obligations, and the whole thing with signing contracts with teams is not easy for him. it does not come naturally to him and he doesn’t see himself as being charismatic. he is confident in his racing abilities, but he is not great at all the other stuff as that is not in his nature.
kevin believes himself to be an aggressive driver, but not a dirty driver, and he thinks the whole situation with nico really caused him to gain that reputation. he says that afterwards, any drivers that were angry at him in the heat of the moment on their radio made it onto television, so f1 really wanted to push that narrative. generally, he doesn’t understand why some drivers take racing so personally. he sees the track as an arena where they are fighting but sees no reason why they should carry grudges off track. they are athletes, they get paid for doing their job and they all want to win – in kevin’s world, that is it.
kevin thinks he would probably have done better in f1 if he was a better liar or if he had been from a higher class, since apparently some higher-ups in f1 finds him too “rough”, but he is who he is and he is proud of that. he also reveals in the book that he actually has a lot of respect for authority, but that he cannot pretend to like people he doesn’t like (this relates to his history with renault that i will share soon - and no, it’s not about jolyon palmer!). he believes that you need to treat everyone with the same amount of respect and kindness regardless of their place in the hierarchy. he wants to know the cleaning crew as well as he knows his boss.
hilarious bonus story: after the confrontation between him and nico hulkenberg, nico refused to speak with him. kevin says they were once the only two people in an elevator going up 30 stories and nico did not say a single word to him, which kevin thought was quite hilarious and he could not help chuckling a little at the time. he says in the book they have not spoken since and he wrote the book in 2021, so it is confirmed that them talking to each other before the bahrain grand prix was literally the first time they have spoken since then. kevin forgave nico almost right away since he doesn’t carry grudges easily, but it was clear nico did not forgive him... until this year apparently!
that was a little bit of a mixed bag, but i hope everyone some insight into how kevin’s brain works and why he is how he is. i love that elevator story with nico hulkenberg, i would have LOVED to be a fly on the wall during that. imagine how awkward the long silence must have been!
EDIT: oh and also it’s very clear in the book that kevin loves children and wants like ten himself lmao, and he loves his daughter, mum and wife very much. we stan a man who cherish and appreciates the women in his life.

Hi! I’m just curious to know as to why you (and a lot of ppl here on tumblr actually) dislike/hate carlos? I was quite surprised to see the animosity as I thought he was an all-around liked guy. Just wanna know your thoughts towards him
Hey!
Honestly, there’s lots of reasons why a person might dislike a driver. Sometimes it’s as simple as I don’t vibe with him. Also, before we get into it, I’d just like to highlight that I can’t speak for everyone. This reply will be pretty subjective, presenting my own thoughts and perception. What I think may not be necessarily applicable to everyone and all that.
For me, personally, he was never a driver I paid much attention to pre-2021. I didn’t really have any strong feelings about him one way or another, he was just there, one of the 20 or so guys on the grid. I was always focused on some other driver and/or team, so he was never really on my radar. So it’s not that I had anything against him per se, it’s more that my focus was elsewhere/I was rooting for someone else - e.g., Pierre during Monza 2020. In hindsight, I think my favourite “iteration” of him was as a McLaren driver. He seemed to be in a good place there, and fit the vibe of the team quite well, is a great friend to Lando and was a great teammate.
I only really started paying more attention to him once he joined Ferrari because, well. He’s part of “my” team now, the one I follow closely; he’s teammates with my favourite driver. That means he’s undeniably there, both on the grid and also across Ferrari’s social media content, which I occasionally consume; he’s often around Charles or involved with something to do with him. Seb and Charles were always my dream Ferrari pairing. I’ve never hidden the fact that they’re the drivers that mean the most to me, the ones I’m most interested in. Hell, they make up 90% of the content on my blog, lol. But even so, I tried to go into this new era of Ferrari with an open mind and give both him and the new teammate pairing a fair chance, watch their videos and interactions and see how I feel about it, develop an opinion.
So...that’s basically what happened.
My frustration or dislike or whatever you want to call it boils down to several different things. I’ve talked about this enough on my blog so I’ll try to keep it concise but the Ch*arlos narrative Ferrari is so doggedly selling, complete with very odd captions - “more than a bromance <3″ - just doesn’t sit well with me. I don’t enjoy it. More broadly, some of their (on camera) interactions kind of got me like :/ I won’t go into all the details now but yeah the vibes, for me, aren’t great.
Annoyance aside, I think my biggest gripe is his attitude. Like I said, I follow Ferrari pretty closely - and even if I didn’t, I mean, social media’s a thing, and the F1 app loves to bombard people with article headlines, lol - so I end up seeing a lot of articles/quotes even if I don’t specifically go looking for them. And even last year I started noticing this pattern of him saying stuff like “I could’ve been on pole/could’ve won the race.” Monaco is probably the most prominent example of this as he kept bringing it up even, like, six months afterwards, that would-be Monaco pole. Now, he’s likely not the only driver to do this. It’s just that he says stuff like this was a frightening consistency, lol. And the problem is...data is available online, so claims like that can easily be debunked, and often are.
This continued into the 2022 season. If you do a quick search for some of his quotes from this year, it’s pretty much more of the same. If he’s to be believed, he feasibly could’ve won every race from Australia to Monaco. Regardless of data, and regardless of circumstances. And that, to me, is more off-putting than anything else - the attitude and, dare I say, ego. Yeah, of course all these guys are (at least outwardly) proud and confident in their own abilities. They wouldn’t be performing at such a high level of motorsport if they weren’t. But some of C’s attitude specifically makes it sound like he’s, I don’t know, a multiple time World Champion, which...he is not. Ferrari has made a solid car this year, one that’s firmly in the championship fight. Okay, so it’s not exactly to his liking and he’s finding it difficult to set it up correctly and extract the maximum out of it, unlike his teammate. He’s made mistakes. I get that. I might be even able to empathise with him. But I can’t find it in me to do that because of things like that. And I’ve had other people tell me similar things. So yeah, that’s pretty much where I stand currently.
#replies#anonymous#finally had some time to type this out#like i said these are my subjective thoughts and ruminations. i can only give my perspective#this is *not* me going after him or his fans#discussions and predictions#.long post

Michael Fassbender, between motorsport and his acting career
Hollywood star Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, X-Men, Twelve Years a Slave, Steve Jobs and Assassin's Creed) is playing his second season in the European Le Mans Series this year at the wheel of the # 93 Porsche 911 RSR-19 of Proton Competition alongside Felipe Laser and Richard Lietz. The German-Irishman continues his progression within the German manufacturer with the 24 Hours of Le Mans as his ultimate goal. Endurance-Info was able to speak with him.
The actor is a true motorsport enthusiast and this is not new. “I have always been interested in cars. My first memories are related to cars, trucks with which we came from Germany ( when he was only two years old, his parents moved to Killarney in Ireland, ed ) . I have always enjoyed sitting behind the wheel and driving cars. Even before being an actor, I dreamed of racing. It was clear to me from a young age. My father was an avid pilot and he taught me a lot. "
Michael Fassbender took his first steps into the world of motor racing during the Porsche Driving Experience. This introductory program for motor racing enthusiasts includes training sessions with a 485 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. After completing this training, the native of Heidelberg moved on to the Porsche Racing Experience. He has benefited from comprehensive coaching, which has been specifically tailored to his needs with three consecutive levels and races as part of the Porsche Sports Cup. Then, he moved to the European Le Mans Series in 2020 within Proton Competition, the structure of Christian Ried. He finished 6th in the GTE classification with a 2nd place at Spa-Francorchamps as the best result.
He is lining up for the 2nd time in the European series this year with the same team and the same teammates. He was satisfied at mid-season (best result, 4th place at the Red Bull Ring). “I think we as a team, but also me as a driver, have made good progress over the past two years. My first season in ELMS was a cold start, but I quickly learned what it takes to be successful in this championship. Now I'm trying to take the next step this season and improve myself step by step. But like I said, I think we are making progress and going in the right direction. "
Michael Fassbender is passionate about the Stuttgart brand. In 2021, he has the new Porsche 911 RSR-19, a car he has learned to "tame". “I love this car. It is a fascinating piece of engineering. I must say that it is quite impressive to see the evolution of the RSR. I mean the RSR-17 (the one from 2020, editor's note) was already a very good car, but the RSR-19 has taken a new step forward. Performance and aerodynamics are even better than before! "
His dream is to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and his process of learning Endurance via ELMS is one of the stages that should lead him to Sarthe. “Le Mans is such a special event. I think you have to go there to really understand what it is. Personally, I can't wait to race there in the main event, after taking part in the Porsche Carrera Cup behind the wheel of a 9 11 GT3 CUP last year (raising the curtain of the 24 Hours, editor's note + see photo below). We will see how this season goes and then we will decide when a participation in Le Mans is possible. "
The (logical) continuation of his apprenticeship could be the world level, but for the moment nothing is decided yet as he confirms it to us: “As I said, for the moment, we are concentrating on this season ELMS and getting some good points and maybe even a podium along the way. What's next is not decided yet, but the WEC is definitely something exciting to do. "
One thing is certain, the actor is a real competitor and a born enthusiast. However, he also has to think about managing his career in Hollywood. “You know, sometimes it's not easy to combine motorsport and cinema, but I decided to run during the summer and work the rest of the year between two seasons. "

Could you do the shipping your mutuals with a footballer and telling is how they will spend their weekend?
so I received these two similar asks in different times. the screenshot one has been in the box for like months ago I’m so sorry anon I wanted to answer it well but I was busy back then so now I’m going to combine these two. anyway let’s get started I have a lot of thoughts about this ask 👀
@footballffbarbiex & anto // amy and anto are meant to be. she will always be his massive supporter. she won’t miss any of his matches but she is just too shy to show up at the stadium. she prefers to support her man in a lowkey way. being the happiest women on earth when he scored but also the saddest when seeing him struggling. however, she chose to not talk about football with anto during weekend, because she knows the only thing he needs is relax and distractions. they will watch nba together. amy has no clues how basketball works but anto is an expert of it, as we all know. he will tell her everything he knows, all the rules and rookies stuffs. amy probably won’t be interested in anything he said but she just loves to see her man being passionate about things he love. she loves him for being who he is.
@avsensio & julian // lexi is too important to julian. she knows this season has been tough for him, so she did what she is good at, using her humor to lighten up her man’s mood, and it works. during the weekend, they lay in bed together watching series and Lexi always can’t stop joking about those characters in the series and julian always looks at her with a big smile on his face. they will walk their dogs together, enjoy the sunset and have a meal at their favorite restaurant. Lexi doesn’t like romantic stuffs, but when it came from julian, you know Lexi will never shut up about it and how lucky and grateful she felt to have Julian as her important one in life.
@fcsonny & sonny // nicole and sonny will be the cutest couple out there who always bring so much sunshine to the people around them. Nicole is sooo good at drawing. She often visits Spurs’ training session, sitting beside the training ground, with a pencil and a notebook in her hands, drawing down the things happened at the training ground. nicole loves trying all kinds of different food, so does sonny. So during weekend, they will go to the restaurant or cafe on their wishing lists, chatting about how dumb his teammates are, and she always know how to cheer up her man, since she is the biggest Spurs’ supporter herself.
@blueforthejerseyandhiseyes & mason // hannah always tries to go to as many matches as she could, because she knows mason will be so happy seeing her coming and her existence will add a lot of energy on him. Hannah loves getting cuddle and mason is always willing to give her a lot of cuddles whenever she is happy or upset. during weekend, they will bake cookies together, putting flour onto each other’s faces, making kitchen into such a mess but they dont care. they both love amusement park so much. screaming out loud when taking roller coaster, laying in each other’s arms on the Ferris wheel, watching the sunset together.
@robertsnowman & tammy // tammy will be that one who can make liz smile so wild because he is just such a silly guy. he knows that liz is always so stressed when watching their matches. he could tell from her face when he came home. he told liz is okay not to watch it but she refused because thats her way to support him. so tammy will hide his emotions whether the result is good or bad, and trying to give her distraction. they will watch tv series, movies and even racing and Motogp since his girl is a huge fan of motorsport. tammy loves asking liz a lot of questions about motorsport, not just because he is kinda interested into it, but also because he just loves seeing her being so passionate when talking about it.
@arrizabalagafc & kepa // kepa might always look angry and hyped on the pitch yelling at the defenders, but we all know he is just a shy adorable bean off the pitch, especially in front of flor. instead of being a chatty person, he’d rather to be a listener, and thats exactly what flor needs. they dont really go out on weekends, since they are both very busy during weekdays but sometimes they will go to concert together, watch their fav bands’ performance and enjoy being nobody among the crowd. kepa is literally not a romantic type that he always forgets things like anniversary but flor truly doesn’t really care about these things either. they share a lot of life values with each other.
#alright im so not good at this can you believe this took me a week to write?#I originally wanna write for a lot of people but ending up running out of idea#so Im sorry if I didn't write about you I just dont wanna ruin you and your fav footballers#and yea im not going to ship myself with any footballers thats too much self expose ajksjnakjs#also liz if you're reading the tags im sorry I wanna include you in this post but im so not sure which footballer is your fav#so I just went for tammy. if you dont like just tell me 😂#okay rant is over enjoy this shit I wrote 🤧#and anon sorry for the late late late reply I tried my best as you can see :')))#anon

memorial of anthoine hubert
I thought that August 31, 2019 would be the same day as others.
I remember that I woke up in the morning and started cleaning up. Later, mom has sent me for shopping, and I thought that in two hours qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix will start.
It was supposed to be a day like the other - Saturday quali, finally F1 after almost a month summer break.
Mum, knowing how much I love racing, let me have dinner in front of my laptop. I ate fries, firedzucchini and fish. And I looked who would win the qualification.
Charles Leclerc won, got his third pole position in his F1 career.
But this is not a story about Ferrari or Charles.
It's a story about someone else. About one French young man who made the whole world stop and cry for a moment.
I don't watch F2. But that doesn't mean I don't watch the drivers who start there and don't try to know what's going on there. However, my plan for the day was: watch F1 quali and sit down to write my book.
However, before I had sat down to write, I checked Tumblr. And - seeing the post, no, posts about a "terrible" accident during race F2, my heart froze.
I shouldn't have said I had to watch it. It wasn't good, but I had to know what happened - I heard that four drivers were involved in the accident, including Alfa Romeo junior driver Juan Manuel Correa and Renault Academy member Anthoine Hubert.
This was not a sign of respect, because, I knew the race was over. But I had to find out, see.
What I saw - after a short search on Google - terrified me.
No, it chilled my blood, made me shiver.
I knew Hubert's car perfectly, because this pink and 19 were his hallmarks. I saw how - at the already known Raidillon corner - the car hits the band, then – blink of an eye - to be hit by the next car and was broken in half.
It wasn't a scary sight. Since the accident of Sophia Floersch - a terrifying accident, which thank God girl is alive - I have not seen anything like this.
And there were no messages, but unofficial reports. Nothing. Tents were set up, two drivers were said to be conscious.
But - this silence, silence, silence.
Nothing.
I didn't write anything that day. My thoughts were only about this accident. I sat there, all stiff, worried about the lives of two people whom I didn't ... knew?
However, it was something more. I had the impression that not only I am in this state. Unable, feeling on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Because everyone, everyone felt that something had become bad, but everyone was begging - God, racing gods, angels, demons, nature, luck, fate - to have mercy.
The silence continued; it sounded louder than a scream.
I was refreshing Instagram, Tumblr.
One post was enough.
One word I read.
No.
And I knew.
Anthoine Hubert was dead.
The official statement of the FIA only confirmed that the driver of car # 19 died at 18:35 due to injuries.
I said I didn't know Anthoine. I don't know how to say we “know” someone these days. I have never seen him race - but I followed him on Insta, I saw his preparation for racing, training with other members who also raced in F2.
I remember smiling when I saw him happy with his girlfriend. Seeing lovers always brings me joy.
I saw a young Frenchman, maybe inconspicuous, but with a glint in his eye, who wore glasses in a dark frame (which I identified with). I saw someone who was the last champion of GP3 and in the debut season in F2 has already won twice.
I saw a young man who would probably join the queen of motorsport in a few years.
That's what I was thinking when I was trying to understand that Anthoine Hubert was dead.
What did his family - loved ones - feel? What did his girlfriend feel?
I didn't have to ask. I knew - because I am experiencing myself, I experienced these feelings when I do not see my better half respond to my messages at the time we are supposed to meet. I remember how I felt when I saw my dad die of cancer.
But this death - death sometimes is a blessing. When I saw brain cancer killing my dad in six months, I begged him to die. Because I couldn't stand that he was suffering - worse, he couldn't stand it himself.
But such death - sudden, fast – during the race - it is not death.
We all remember about Ayrton Senna. About Roland Ratzenberger. About Jules Bianchi. Formula 1 is love, but also deadly love; and I will admit that I forgot about this dark side of my love.
Refreshing Instagram, Ig story Anthoine popped up, Anthoine just posted Spa picture he was ready for jumping into the car and fighting for his dreams again.
I don’t glorify his death. I do not glorify the danger of racing. It is possible that in some other universe I, this very person that is writing this, was crazy enough that my love for racing turned into real racing.
I do not know.
At the news of Anthoine's death, when I was alone, I shed not a few, a dozen, but thousands of tears. But I didn't just think about him. I thought about my mother, about my father, about my lover - knowing how Anthoine’s family feels.
And I didn't feel alone, because every fan, every driver, team - shared my despair.
As a motorsport fan, I experienced intoxicating moments. I laughed at memes, I screamed when the driver won and I felt frustrated when he lost.
But today, I was devastated.
Completely devastated and broken.
I am already someone so much diffrent than I was yesterday.
We will think of Anthoine Hubert as a person who had the courage to do what he loved. And not that he died doing what he loved - that's not the point. This should not happen. This accident. Never.
Each of us can die, every day, at any time, even choking on a banana.
Let Anthoine's death remind us of the fragility of this life. And the speed at which it can end. Let his death help us understand that we must love and smile every day. Let his death help us - our fans, us as people - become better and make racing safer.
I will remember you forever, Anthoine. I was no one special, one of the thousands of followers who was curious about your life as a driver. But, I will remember You - your smile, glasses, passion. It's how your colleagues say about You - that at the end of the day you were just a decent person.
And I will hope that you were the first and last driver whose death I witnessed.
Respose en Paix, Anthoine.

The Clavicle Calamity
The shoulder blade’s connected to the collarbone. The collarbone’s connected to the sternum. The sternum’s connected to the… Photo courtesy of Jeremy Cook Racing.
Time for a pop quiz.
Quick, which bone do motorcycle road racers fracture more frequently than any other?
If you got the not-so-subtle hint from the title of this story, the equally not-so-subtle hint from the X-ray image provided to us by MotoAmerica Stock 1000 rider Jeremy Cook, you’ve suffered the injury yourself while road racing, you’re a medical physician, you’re “pre-med” (aren’t we all?), or you play a doctor on TV, then you already know the answer is “the clavicle.” Or, “the collarbone” if you’re not into the whole medical-terminology thing.
Fact is, motorcycle road racers break their clavicles pretty often. When you fall off a fast-moving motorcycle, as motorcycle road racers sometimes do, the shoulder generally takes the majority of the impact. And the shoulder is connected to the sternum by a long, thin “subframe” known as the clavicle. Well, that long, thin subframe is a bone fracture just waiting to happen.
2020 Supersport Champion Richie Escalante began his title defense with a fractured clavicle that he suffered after crashing his pedal bike just before the start of the 2021 season. Yup, that’s right, motorcycle road racers don’t even have to be racing their motorcycles to break their clavicles.
Lots of riders have broken their clavicles and then road raced not long after suffering the injury. Allow me to regale you with a decades-old tale of Superbike super-courage. Sit right here, at my knee.
Sadowski on his way to winning the 1990 Daytona 200. Before he broke his clavicle, had it repaired, broke it again, and then brought out the hammer.
In 1990, Vance & Hines Yamaha Superbike rider David Sadowski broke his collarbone during the season (by the way, “Ski” won that year’s Daytona 200). He had surgery on the injury, which involved the installation of a nifty plate and set of screws to stabilize the bone so it could heal. It did not prevent him from racing nor did it prevent him from crashing again and bending the very plate that was supposed to be holding his clavicle together.
Now, here’s where things get a little, shall we say, pear-shaped. As the story goes, in order for Ski to continue racing that season, he quite literally picked up a hammer and pounded that crash-bent plate back into place. I know, “Inconceivable!” as actor Wallace Shawn’s character Vizzini loudly proclaimed in “The Princess Bride.” But, go and ask Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., Assistant Department Manager of Racing Tom Halverson about Ski’s collarbone. He’ll tell you the same story.
Ski was a tough guy, but he wasn’t a U.S. Marine.
Stock 1000 rider Jeremy Cook is. At Road America, Cook crashed his BMW S 1000 RR, and among his multiple injuries, you guessed it, he fractured his clavicle. Actually, he shattered his clavicle. In five places. Again, that’s Cook’s X-ray at the top of this story.

He wasn’t sure if he’d be medically cleared to race at MotoAmerica’s next round on June 25 through 27 at Ridge Motorsports Park. But he did. In fact, he led his team of U.S. Marines veterans to two 16th-place finishes in the weekend’s MotoAmerica Stock 1000 races aboard his BMW S 1000 RR. Just making it to the end of each 13-lap race in brutally hot and humid conditions was a challenge for the ailing Cook, but the former Marine saw the mission through.
He’s on the entry list for this weekend’s Stock 1000 race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, too. If you’re coming to the track, stop by his paddock area, and thank him for his service to our country. While you’re there, also give Cook a big U.S. Marines “Oorah!” He hasn’t let his Clavicle Calamity prevent him from continuing to race in MotoAmerica.
